Inside CSD: measuring what keeps India's grid running

From a small workshop to instruments on substations across the country — the thinking behind every CSD tester.

The takeaway

01

Every instrument is designed, assembled and calibrated in India.

02

Our engineers spend more time in substations than in meeting rooms.

03

Service doesn't end at the sale — it starts there.

01Where it began

CSD started with a simple frustration: field crews were working with imported instruments that were hard to repair, slow to recalibrate and not built for Indian conditions — heat, dust, monsoon damp and long distances between service centres.

We set out to build testers that an engineer in a district substation could trust, understand and get serviced without waiting months.

“A reading you can't repeat isn't a measurement. It's a guess with a number on it.”

02How we build

Every product starts in the field. Our application engineers ride along with utility crews, note what slows them down, and bring that back to the bench.

Prototypes go back to site before they ever reach a catalogue. If a lineman can't use it with gloves on, in sunlight, at the end of a long shift, it isn't finished.

03Calibration as a habit

Accuracy isn't a number we print on a datasheet — it's something we check, record and prove on every unit before it leaves, and at every recalibration after.

04What comes next

We're expanding our field service network, adding new test methods for modern XLPE networks, and building instruments that share results digitally so records stop living on paper.
