ABOUT

CSD Instruments

What is CSD?

CSD Instruments is an Indian manufacturer of test and measurement equipment for power utilities. We design, build and calibrate the tools engineers use to locate cable faults, confirm phase and check battery health, so the grid stays safe and running.

The company

What is CSD?

In three words: built to measure.

Four honest questions about who we are, what we build, how we work and where we are going — answered by the people who do the work.

01Who are we?

An Indian instrument maker built around one obsession: measurements engineers can trust.

CSD Instruments began in 1999 as a small calibration workshop, repairing imported test sets that Indian utilities could no longer service. Two decades later we design, manufacture and calibrate our own range in India — every circuit, every enclosure and every line of firmware owned by the same team that answers the phone when something goes wrong in the field. We are not a trading house with a logo on someone else's box: the people who draw the board are the people who sign the certificate.

02What do we make?

Instruments for the three questions every network asks.

Where is the cable fault? Are these phases matched? Will this battery bank hold when the grid drops? Our UG cable fault locators, phasing testers and battery analysers answer them quickly and repeatably — rugged enough for a trench at midnight, precise enough for a calibration lab, and simple enough that a new lineman trusts the reading on day one. Each discipline is developed under one roof, so a fault locator, a phasing set and an analyser from the same rack speak the same language.

03How do we work?

Calibrated before it ships, supported long after it lands.

Every instrument is traceably calibrated before dispatch, commissioned with the crew who will actually use it, and backed by service engineers who travel to the substation rather than asking for the instrument to be couriered. We measure success not in units sold but in outages shortened, faults found first time, and utilities that keep coming back — because the grid India runs on deserves instruments built to stay, not instruments built to be replaced.

04Where are we going?

Deeper into the grid, and into the harder questions.

The instruments we are building now aim at the faults that are hardest to see — partial discharge inside switchgear, insulation that has quietly aged, protection schemes that trip when they should not. Alongside them the calibration lab is growing and the field teams are being trained to keep response times honest as the fleet grows. The plan is not to make more things; it is to make the things we already make indispensable.
